Cleanse Questions:


1. What is a cleanse?    

During a Rooted juice cleanse you’ll be consuming only raw, organic and living fruit and vegetable juices, as well nut mylk and superfood shots, for a period of 1-5 days. This gives your body the opportunity to shift into detox mode, ridding the body of built up toxins and focusing on recovery and repair. 

2. Why cleanse?

Most of us don’t even realize how many toxins we encounter on a day-to-day basis. But when you step back and think about all the pesticides, additives, chemicals and artificial ingredients that are in the food we eat and water we drink, it can be pretty overwhelming. Even if you’re strict about drinking filtered water and eating organic produce, it’s pretty likely you’re still being exposed to toxins through the air you breath. Stress also creates toxins, something most of us feel weekly, if not daily! Toxic clutter builds up, clouding your body and mind, often leading to fatigue and poor digestion.

3. If I have a gluten allergy, can I cleanse?

 Absolutely! We are gluten free. In fact, there is nothing added to our juice but juice! Absolutely NO additives and 100% vegan. 

4. Do I need to check with a doctor first?

 It’s important to realize that we are not doctors, and therefore any of our advice or recommendations should not be considered medical advice. We do not offer medically supervised cleanses, and if you’re currently on medication or have a health condition of any kind we advise you to consult a doctor before cleansing. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you should not cleanse. 

5. Is there more than one cleanse option?

 Yes! We offer two different cleanse options, with one having slightly more fruit juices incorporated than the other. Our first cleanse is great for first timers, as well as those who are more physically active. Our second is great for juicing veterans or those who already eat a predominately organic, vegan diet.                    

6. How long can my juices last? How should I store them?

You should consume your juice within 3 days after you receive it. Unlike brands sold at the grocery store we never use HPP and our juice is 100% raw. Store your juice in your fridge. Never leave your juice out, as this can cause harmful bacteria to grow. 

7. Should I continue to take my multi-vitamins? What about B-12?

If your vitamins are food-based, then maybe. You are consuming about 20 lbs of freshly pressed fruits and vegetables every day, which means that that is now essentially your “multi-vitamin.” The only vitamin that you might want to add is B-12. There is much debate over whether or not vegetarians get enough B-12 on a plant based diet. If you do not want to take a supplement just add some sea vegetables or blue-green algae.    

8. What order am I supposed to drink my juices in? Does the order matter?

Yes, the juice is labeled and should be consumed in that order. The order in which you consume your juices directly effects how you absorb, assimilate, and digest nutrients.     

9. How many calories are in each cleanse?

Each cleanse offers between 900 - 1100 calories. However, please bear in mind that counting calories with raw foods and juice is not equivalent to the calories you count on a traditional diet of cooked and/or processed foods. Nothing is wasted here, as the body knows how to assimilate all the calories in raw live foods, whereas a regular diet of 2,000 calories for example, might only have about 1200 useable calories and the rest is “wasted” or stored as fat. We do try to encourage all our clients to move away from calorie oriented thinking, as it’s really no comparison. 500 calories of live juice is NOT the same 500 calories as a bagel with cream cheese! We try to focus on the nutritional content as opposed to the calorie content; cleansing is more about nutrition and flooding your body with live enzymes.      

 

10. How much weight will I lose? 

Remember, this is a nutritional cleanse designed to give your digestive system a rest and therefore allow your body to eliminate toxins. If you do lose weight, and that was something you were looking for while cleansing, then that’s just a happy side effect. 

11. Will I gain all the weight back? 

Hopefully, if weight control is your goal, our Cleanse will put you on a path towards healthier habits. Many people report being able to focus more on what they are putting into their body cleansing. Make this your goal in preparing for your cleanse, and ask yourself, “What am I going to do when this cleanse is over?” It’s an opportunity to “reset.” 

12. How often can I cleanse?

Listen to your body. We recommend doing at least one 3 day cleanse 4 times a year, though some people find that cleansing once a day every week works well for them. There’s really no one answer that’s right for everyone, so experiment and see what feels right to you. 

13. What if I have Candida or don’t want so much sugar? 

If you're looking to steer away from sugar, your cleanse option is all green. Ask us about personalizing your own cleanse for your specific needs. 

14. What are the benefits of the green juices vs. the fruit juices?

The main benefit of green juice is its alkalizing effect. Fruit juices are more astringent; essentially the fruit digs it up and the green moves it out. Think of how your eyes start to water and maybe your nose runs a little when you bite into a lemon – citrus is a wonderful natural expectorant. 

15. I haven’t gone to the bathroom at all, and I'm on day two. Is that normal? Is this safe?

This and the opposite are completely normal side effects of the cleanse and one of the reasons to schedule a colonic before, during, or after your cleanse to help the elimination process. Reduced input means reduced output, and out with the old, in with the new! 

16. Is it OK to exercise while cleansing? 

Absolutely! While we don’t recommend rigorous exercise, light to moderate exercise including yoga is recommended. 

17. What are detox symptoms? Will I get them? 

During a cleanse, the body is essentially tearing down all of the "bad stuff" and rebuilding with new material. To make room for that new material, the "bad stuff" needs to leave; how it makes its exit is your potential crisis. For example: when the body eliminates coffee, symptoms usually include headaches, nervousness, and shakiness. When protein, meats, and fats are eliminated, you may experience skin eruptions, foul body odor, and/or a coated tongue. 

18. Can I cleanse and eat food too? 

The benefits of a cleanse will be lost if you eat solid food in addition to the juices. The idea of a cleanse is to only consume the juice so that your digestive system has time to rest. However, if you want to supplement your current diet with fresh pressed juice, it’s great for digestion and packed with vitamins and minerals. 

19. Can I drink Diet Coke? 

That’s a solid ‘No’. We don’t recommend it during a cleanse, and we actually don’t recommend it ever. Try to drink water with lemon or herbal or green tea instead. However, if drinking seltzer or sparkling water will prevent you from drinking soda, you can do so. Seltzer and sparkling will contribute gas to your system, so it's not ideal, but still the better choice.
